Jesus asked lots of questions. One day he asked his disciples this one:
Who do the crowds say I am?
The disciples gave a bunch of different answers. Some thought Jesus was John the Baptist. Others said he was Elijah. Some believed he was some other Old Testament prophet come back to life.
In other words, to the average guy on the street Jesus was simply one dude among many, good but not the ultimate, a prophet but not THE prophet.
There are no shades of gray with Jesus. As C.S. Lewis put it, someone making Jesus’ claims was either “liar, lunatic or Lord.” There is no in-between.
Jesus then asked the disciples a question that hit ’em right in the heart:
But what about you?
Who do you say I am?
Only Peter was bold enough to answer. He responded:
You are the Christ,
the Son of the living God.
So, what about YOU? Who do you say Jesus is?
