No Pearls to Pigs

GUWG-Pearls-3We continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.

We’re sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening to the greatest sermon ever preached: The Sermon on the Mount.

Here’s today’s selection:

Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. (Matthew 7:6)

Jesus uses graphic imagery to warn of the dangers about sharing “sacred” things (the Gospel) with “dogs” and “pigs” (those who are viciously hostile to the kingdom of God).

We’re called to be “wise” and “shrewd” in how we evangelize. As Jesus said later:

I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. (Matthew 10:16)

He also said:

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet. (Matthew 10:14)

The message is clear: Pray for wisdom and discernment before you open your mouth.
