We’ve been taking a deeeeep dive into the model prayer Jesus gave his followers:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
Today’s focus: GOD’S KINGDOM AND WILL.
Waaaaaay too often I skip this part and plunge right into God-here’s-what-isn’t-going-well-and-I-need-you-to-fix-it-right-now demands. If I’m honest, my prayers often sound like I want MY kingdom to come and MY will to be done.
Jesus’ prayer flips those types of selfish requests on their head and helps us see the world in its proper perspective. Here it is:
God is God.
The amazing thing is that God allows us imperfect creatures to be part of his perfect plan.
God’s kingdom is perfect. We should pray and long for it to come.
God’s will is perfect. We should pray and long for it to be done.
Heaven is perfect. We should pray and long for things to be done here as there.
