Jesus Frees Us

Jesus was teaching on a Sabbath in a synagogue. There was a woman there who had been crippled by an evil spirit for eighteen years. It was so bad that she was completely bent over and couldn’t straighten up at all.

Jesus’ clash with the religious authorities begins to escalate:

Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”

Like Father Like Son

Jesus healed people on the Sabbath. Since there’s no prohibition against actually loving people and doing good on that day, Jesus didn’t violate God’s law. He did, however, go against the religious leaders’ hypocritical man-made rules and traditions and threatened their authority. So, they began to persecute him.
