Today’s word? SERVE. Here’s our key verse:
Serve one another in love. (Galatians 5:13)
The ancient Bible-y word for “serve” in this verse was douleuo, which actually means “performing the duties of a slave.” In other words, we’re called to put others’ needs way way waaaaaay above our own.
Don’t forget the “in love” part, though. We’re not called to serve begrudgingly with grumbles and gritting of teeth. God wants us to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to serve from our HEARTS. As the Bible says elsewhere:
Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people. (Ephesians 6:7)
Here’s what Jesus had to say on this subject:
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you to overflowing and then look for ways to serve others today. Serve your family. Serve your neighbors. Serve your friends. Serve your enemies. Serve some strangers. Serve, serve, serve and then serve some more.
