How about people who take God at his word?
Here’s just a smattering of what the Bible says about being rich in this world:
Woe to you who are rich. (Luke 6:24)
How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. (Luke 18:24-25)
Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. (Philippians 3:18b-19)
You say, “I am rich. I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.” But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. (Revelation 3:17)
Yikes. So, who exactly is “rich”? Great question. The median worldwide annual household income is about $8,200. How do you compare?
So, what’s the solution? Here’s what the Bible says:
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us everything for our enjoyment. (1 Timothy 6:17)
Or, as Jesus himself said:
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven … for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)
