Earlier this week, we unveiled the official GUWG 2017 Spiritual Workout Plan to help us all prepare for the Big Race.
So far, we’ve covered:
What’s next? Actually doing what God says. Today’s topic is the Bible in one verb: LOVE.
Some religious scholars asked Jesus:
Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?
His reply changed the world forever. He said:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” All of the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. (Matthew 22:36-38)
Christianity isn’t about rules. It’s about relationships. God wants us to (1) love Him with all we’ve got and (2) love others. It’s that simple.
But how exactly do we “love God”? Isn’t that like trying to find a gift for the proverbial guy who’s got everything (literally)?
Not at all. God gives us free will. We can either love Him or reject Him. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be true love.
So, what does the Bible say? It couldn’t be clearer:
This is love for God: to obey his commands. (1 John 5:3)
What are his commands? To love Him and love others. Get it? It’s all about love.
Let’s go a bit deeper. The Bible also says:
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (1 John 4:16)
God wants us to live in Him. You can’t get much closer than that. He wants us to spend time with Him, to listen to Him, to talk to Him, to have a deep, intimate, spiritual relationship with Him. He wants His unselfish, unconditional and unshakable love to flow deep into your heart and out into the lives of everyone around you.
It’s a beautiful thing.
We’ll have much more on this topic in coming weeks. Until then …
PASS IT ON.
