Yesterday, Jesus battled with demons. Today, he encounters a mother-in-law.
As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.
Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a high fever, and they immediately asked Jesus to help her.
So he went to her, took her hand, rebuked the fever and helped her up. The fever left her and at once she began to wait on them.
(Mark 1:29-31, Luke 4:38-39)
I love this tender little scene. I’m a big fan of mothers-in-law. (Personally, I have the best one in the history of the universe.)
I love how the disciples immediately ask Jesus to help her.
I love how Jesus immediately goes to her, takes her hand and helps her up.
I love how she immediately responds: by SERVING.
Our reaction should be the exact same.
