We continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.
We’re in the midst of a series entitled JESUS ON EVERYTHING. Today’s topic: UNITY.
As amazing as it sounds, Jesus prayed for you and me. Here’s what he said:
My prayer is not for [the disciples] alone. I pray for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. (John 17:20-23)
Here are a pair of other unity verses straight from the mouth of Jesus:
There shall be one flock and one shepherd. (John 10:16b)
Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. (Luke 11:17)
Jesus prayed that we would live in “complete unity” as “one” and that we would be “in” him and the Father. If we do, the world will know the Father sent Jesus and loves us as he loved him. If we don’t, the world won’t. It’s that simple.
Ask the Spirit to help us all be living answers to Jesus’ prayer.
The world needs it.
