Jesus Calms the Storm

Storm-on-Sea-of-GalileeWe continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.

Today, we come to one of the my absolute all-time favorite Bible stories:

One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s go to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, Jesus fell asleep on a cushion in the stern of the boat.

A furious squall came down on the lake and waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped, and they were in great danger.

The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the raging waters, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the storm subsided, and all was calm.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

(Luke 8:22-25; Matthew 8:24-27; Mark 4:35-41)

Let’s look at our 2 BIG Questions:

1. Who exactly is Jesus?

Jesus demonstrates that he is both (1) human and (2) God. As a human, he gets sleepy and snoozes. As God, he has power over nature.

Over and over and over Jesus provides signs and wonders to deepen his disciples’ faith. But they’re still not quite getting the whole picture of exactly who he is.

2. What exactly should we do?

Have FAITH. If you’re in the boat with Jesus there’s absolutely nothing to fear. There’s no storm that you and he can’t weather together.
