Today we continue our discussion started yesterday here about one of the most famous conversations in human history. To recap, Nick, a religious leader, came to see Jesus to find out more about the man and his mission. Jesus described the necessity of a spiritual rebirth and then uttered these beautiful words, the most frequently quoted in the entire Bible:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
Let’s look at our 2 BIG Questions:
Who exactly is Jesus?
Jesus makes it clear: he’s “God’s one and only Son” who came to save and bring light to this dark world.
What exactly should we do?
Again, Jesus makes it clear: BELIEVE. As we discussed yesterday, true belief is a deeeeep growing trust in Jesus that involves every aspect of our being.
Come into the light. Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate your heart, mind and soul and to help you live by the truth revealed through Jesus. There’s no other way to be.
