Jesus left the region of Tyre and traveled through the region of the Decapolis, a league of ten cities east of the Jordan River. Some people brought Jesus a man who was deaf and could barely talk and begged Jesus to heal him.
Jesus took the man aside, away from the crowd. Here’s what happened next:
Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.
Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
Let’s look at our 2 BIG Questions:
1. Who exactly was Jesus?
Jesus again demonstrates that he’s the compassionate Great Physician empowered from heaven above who has “done everything well.”
2. What exactly should we do?
Ask Jesus to open your ears and loosen your tongue so that you can plainly proclaim all that God has done for you.
