Thankful Thursday

This Thursday think thoroughly thankful thoughts:

Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 5:18-20)

Thank God for everything. Now. Seriously. Please.

Spoiler Alert: God Wins.

If anyone ever filmed me watching a football game on TV and showed it to me, I’d probably be extremely really very sincerely horrified.

I tend to get highly agitated, pace around the room, shout things at the screen and generally act like I’m in complete agony until it’s 100% clear that my team will beat the bunch of evildoers on the other team. And then once the game’s over I immediately start obsessing over whether my team will beat the next team it plays.

Thank God!

This week on GUWG we’re focusing on prayer for the easily distracted (like me), using this handy little acronym as a guide:

A = Adoration
C = Confession
T = Thanksgiving
S = Supplication

Today’s topic: THANKSGIVING.

Grumbling Antidote #1: Thankfulness

Yesterday, we officially kicked off NO GRUMBLING WEEK 2017 here on GUWG.

We started off with a pair of Bible verses that make it clear that grumbling, whining and complaining are bad things. We then issued a challenge: we asked all of our grumble-prone readers to (1) pinch themselves every time they feel a grumble coming on and instead (2) recite one of the verses.

Thanks in Action

It’s THANKS-O-RAMA 2016  here on GUWG, where for the past week we’ve been giving thanks to God for all his amazing, astounding, astonishing blessings.

I suspect that some of us are still struggling to recover from an overdose of turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie. Here’s a rather sobering passage to consider:

Jesus Heals Ten Lepers

GUWG-Thank-YouWe continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.

As I’ve said before, most of my prayers go something like this:

(Something bad happens.)

Me: Help!

(God answers my prayer. Then something bad happens.)

Me: Help!

(God answers my prayer. Then something bad happens.)

Me: Help!

(Repeat the above ad nauseam)

What’s missing? The THANKS! part.

Thankful Lips

It’s THANKS-O-RAMA 2011 here on GUWG, where from now through Thanksgiving Day we’re thinking thankful thoughts.

Today, we’re taking those thoughts from our heads down to our lips. Here are today’s thanks-inducing verses. Ponder ’em. Pray through ’em. Proclaim ’em!

I will extol the Lord
at all times;
His praise will always be on my lips.
(Psalm 34:1)

Through Jesus, therefore,
let us continually
offer to God
a sacrifice of praise —
the fruit of lips
that confess His name.
(Hebrews 13:15)
