Do What He Says

Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)

I love reading. I can sit with a book for hours and easily forget the world around me.

Getting up off the couch and actually doing something? Well, sometimes that’s a different story.

The Bible instructs us to get up off our collective duffs. Read Jesus’ words at the top of this post once more. If we listen to His words AND put them into practice, He promises us a foundation that can’t be shaken.

What happens if we don’t do what He says?

Cool Down

workout-newWe started off the year with our official 2017 Spiritual Workout to help us all trim our spiritual flabbiness and train for the Big Race.

To review, here are the key verses:

Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. (Philippians 2:12)

Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life, and the life to come. (1 Timothy 4:7-8)

Here’s a quick review:

Ready? Set! Resssssst.

workout-newCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-30)

We started off the year with GUWG’s official 2017 Spiritual Workout to help us all train for the Big Race.

Physical trainers will tell you that any workout plan will be doomed to fail if it doesn’t incorporate today’s piece: REST.

Feeling tired? Stressed? Overwhelmed? You don’t have to.

Share the Good News

workout-newGo into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. (Mark 16:15)

We kicked off the year with the official GUWG 2017 Spiritual Workout to help us all train for the Big Race.

Today’s topic? SHARE the good news.

If there’s one piece of this workout that freaks me out, it’s this one. I love Jesus. But if I’m honest, sometimes I’m afraid to tell others because I fear that maybe they won’t like me so much anymore. It sounds absolutely 187% pathetic but it’s true.

Meet Together

workout-newWe’re kicking off the year with the official GUWG 2017 Spiritual Workout to help us all train for the Big Race.

Today’s topic? MEET Together.

I love these verses:

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them. (Matthew 18:20)

When I look back over my life, most of the stupid stuff I did happened when I was alone. God knows that we’re weakest when we’re by ourselves — that’s why he designed other human beings.

Consider the Trinity for a moment. It’s a beautiful picture of how relationships are supposed to be. Father, Son and Holy Spirit — three who live in such a tight, loving community that they’re truly ONE.

It’s a love party. God loves to hang out with us. And God loves it when we hang out with others. Our relationships should reflect the love and unity that’s in the Trinity. So …

MEET TOGETHER.
PLEASE.

Go FAST

workout-newWe started off the year with our official 2017 Spiritual Workout Plan to help us all train for the Big Race.

Today’s topic? FAST from stupid stuff.

Here’s today’s Bible dose:

Love, Love, Love

workout-newEarlier this week, we unveiled the official GUWG 2017 Spiritual Workout Plan to help us all prepare for the Big Race.

So far, we’ve covered:

What’s next? Actually doing what God says. Today’s topic is the Bible in one verb: LOVE.

Some religious scholars asked Jesus:

Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?

His reply changed the world forever. He said:
