Fix Your Eyes

We continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.

We’re sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to the greatest sermon ever preached: the Sermon on the Mount.

How serious is God about sin? Here’s what Jesus said.

You have heard that it was said, “Do not commit adultery.” But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if  your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go to hell.

It has been said, “Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.” But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

(Matthew 5:27-30)

The message couldn’t be clearer: stop sin at its source. Now.

Are You a Murderer?

We’re sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to the greatest sermon every preached. Yesterday, Jesus told us that he came to deepen — not destroy — the demands of God’s law.

Today, he begins to show us what he means:

Jesus and the Law

We’re sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to the greatest sermon ever preached: the Sermon on the Mount. Today, Jesus tackles another highly controversial subject:

What about all that Old Testament law stuff?

Here’s what he said:

Salt + Light

We continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.

We’re sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening to the greatest sermon ever preached: The Sermon on the Mount. His radical words of love, joy and peace amazed his audience and turned the world on its head.

We started with the Beatitudes — eight essential aspects of Christian character and the blessings that flow from them. Today, Jesus moves right into how we’re supposed to live in this dying, dark world.

Here’s what he said:

Do What Jesus Says

We continue our 40-day journey deeeeep into the ♥ of Jesus.

Today, we reach the end of the Sermon on the Mount. Here’s how Jesus began his concluding remarks:

Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)

If we listen to Jesus’ words AND put them into practice, he promises us a foundation that can’t be shaken. What happens if we don’t do what he says?

Which Way?

Today, Jesus gives us a stark contrast and makes it clear that we have a choice to make. His instruction is simple: choose your path carefully.

Wide is the gate
but small is the gate
and broad is the road
and narrow the road
that leads to destruction
that leads to life
and many enter through it
and only a few find it
(Matthew 7:13-14)

God Gives Good Gifts

GUWG-ASK-BlackWe continue our 40-day journey deeeeep into the ♥ of Jesus.

We’re sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening to the greatest sermon ever preached: the Sermon on the Mount.

To me, there’s nothing more comforting than today’s words from Jesus:

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to  your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

(Matthew 7:7-11)
