Jesus is in the midst of a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a trial.
First, he was brought before Annas, an influential religious leader and the former high priest. Then, in the middle of the night he was dragged to Caiphas, Annas’ son-in-law and the current high priest. Throughout the ordeal, Jesus was falsely accused, mocked, spat upon and beaten.
Now, at daybreak, he was taken to the Sanhedrin, the official religious ruling council. They had one key question for Jesus, in an attempt to try to pin a charge of blasphemy on him:
