Jesus Calms the Storm

Storm-on-Sea-of-GalileeWe continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.

Today, we come to one of the my absolute all-time favorite Bible stories:

One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s go to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, Jesus fell asleep on a cushion in the stern of the boat.

A furious squall came down on the lake and waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped, and they were in great danger.

The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the raging waters, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the storm subsided, and all was calm.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

(Luke 8:22-25; Matthew 8:24-27; Mark 4:35-41)

THE Sign

GUWG-Cross-SignWe continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.

Jesus gave sight to the blind, opened the ears of the deaf, made the lame walk, healed the sick and raised the dead. Apparently, that wasn’t enough for the religious authorities:

Some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”

Jesus Beats Death

Here’s today’s rather touching selection:

Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him. A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her.

When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.”

On his way to Jerusalem for the last time, Jesus and his disciples came to Jericho. A large crowd followed them as they left the city.

Two blind men were sitting by the road begging. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they yelled, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet. But they yelled even louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
