Top 10 Countdown: #8

We’re counting down the top ten Bible verses of all time, as determined by researchers with very large brains who analyze how often each verse is referenced.

Here’s VERSE #8. These were Jesus’ last words before leaving Earth. Pray through ’em. Memorize ’em. And then LIVE ’em.

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

LOVE Power

It’s LOVE-O-RAMA 2017 here on GUWG.

To me, the freakiest part about being a Christian is that God — the creator of the universe — comes to live IN you. The Bible says:

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? (1 Corinthians 6:19)

Fill Up

workout-newI will ask the Father and He will give you another counselor to be with you forever. (John 14:16)

Yesterday we unveiled our official 2017 Spiritual Workout Plan to help us all train for the Big Race.

Today we’ve included a handy graphic suitable for framing, posting on your fridge, tattooing on your biceps or anything else that will help you shun spiritual flabbiness.

The first step? It all starts with the  lit up by the flame in the center. Before we even think about moving a muscle, we need to plug into our power source: the Holy Spirit.

The Bible tells us to “be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18). It’s the only way to live:

Jesus on …

Yesterday we started a new series: JESUS ON …

We’ll be taking a look at what Jesus said about a variety of absolutely critical, life-altering subjects in his own words with a minimum of commentary from me.

We kicked things off yesterday with what Jesus said about God the Father. Today’s topic? JESUS ON THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Father, Son and Us

GUWG-HeartWe continue our journey into every word spoken by Jesus in the Gospels to help us all KNOW JESUS MORE NOW.

We’re taking a deeeeep dive into this rather provocative question: Who did Jesus say he is?

We started by looking at the title Jesus used most often to refer to himself: Son of Man. For the past few days we’ve been examining another: Son of God.

After Jesus declared that “no one comes to the Father except through me” and “If you really know me, you will know my Father,” Philip chimed in with this request:

Receive the Holy Spirit

We’re attempting to answer the question What exactly are Christians supposed to do? by looking at 50 commands straight from the mouth of Jesus.

On the first night after his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his rather freaked-out disciples, who were huddled together in a locked room out of fear for the religious leaders. First, he said:

Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.

Then he “breathed on them” and said:

Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.

(John 20:19-25; Luke 24:36-43)

Receive the Holy Spirit. What on earth does that mean and why does it matter? Jesus had lots to say on this all-important subject:

Let the Spirit Do the Talking

Jesus warned his followers that they would face persecution in this world but told ’em not to worry:
