God Gives Good Gifts

It’s CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN 2017 here on GUWG where from now until December 25 we’re preparing our hearts for the arrival of the Savior of the World.

Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:9-11)

Notice the exclamation point at the end of the above verse. Let’s say it again: God gives good gifts to those who ask Him! Don’t ever forget that awesome truth.

The Gift

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:11)

A woman named Beckah Fink shared this story years ago about an unnamed “famous family.” It’s been repeated ever since by everyone from Billy Graham to Dear Abby. Kicks me in the heart every time.

A young man was about to graduate from high school.

He was sure that his father was planning to give him a car for his graduation present. The two of them had been shopping for cars together for months and just a few days earlier had found what the young man thought was the perfect car.

The big day finally arrived. The young man could hardly contain his excitement. At long last, his father called him into his study and handed him his gift: a Bible.

The young man was furious. He threw the Bible down in disgust and stormed out of the house.

The young man and his father never saw each other again.

Years later, news of his father’s death brought the man back home. As he was sifting through the various items that he had inherited from his father, he came across the Bible. He brushed off the dust and opened it.

Inside was a check dated the day of his graduation in the exact amount of the car they had picked out together.

Your heavenly Father gives awesome gifts. Don’t waste another second: dust off your Bible and discover them today.
