BIBLE VERSE-O-RAMA 2013

I recently stumbled upon a web site that’s devoted entirely to random top ten lists. There’s everything from the Top Ten Worst Songs of All Time to the Top Ten Things To Do With Empty Spam Cans.

The one thing the site seemed to lack is anything remotely spiritual. While all scripture is God-breathed and helpful for instruction, I thought it might be interesting to submit a list of my top ten favorite Bible verses. Click here to see the list.

Narrowing my list to a mere ten caused me great pain. For that reason, here are GUWG’s official …

YOUR Favorite Verses

This week we discussed some of the world’s most-loved Bible verses, including the favorites of luminaries such as Billy Graham, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Joni Eareckson Tada, Johnny Cash and even Mr. Rogers.

We also asked YOU to share YOUR favorite verses. Here’s a greatest hits collection of your tweets, emails and comments. Pray through every single syllable and semi-colon.

Gospel in a Nutshell

It’s VERSE-O-RAMA 2012 this week on GUWG, where we’re examining some of the world’s favorite Bible verses.

Billy Graham has preached the gospel to more people than anyone in history. His favorite verse? It’s not too surprising:

I grew up on a steady diet of the kind and gentle Mr. Rogers. If I’m honest, I probably spent more time listening to him than I did both my parents combined. (Sorry, Mom and Dad.)

Life vs. Death

He wrote more than a thousand songs and sold more than 50 million records. He’s the only performer who’s been inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He survived addictions to amphetamines and barbiturates and multiple jail terms. He won Grammys, he won Country Music Awards, he recorded best-selling albums when he was a septuagenarian.

His name? Johnny Cash.

It’s Jesus

Imagine you’re seventeen years old.

You’re hanging out at a lake, enjoying the last days of summer with your friends. You swim out to a raft and warm yourself in the sun. Then you decide to jump back into the water. But you dive in a bit too deeply — your head hits the bottom, you hear a loud SNAP and then everything goes black.

VERSE-O-RAMA Day 2

Yesterday, I posted my favorite Bible verse and asked y’all to send in yours. As they continue to roll in, I thought it might be interesting to post what some famous folks said their favorite verses were.

Here’s the first selection …

At the Civil Rights Museum in Montgomery, Alabama, there’s a monument dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and all those who have struggled for racial equality in America. The monument is a circular slab of granite over which flows a gentle, never-ending stream. Above it appears Dr. King’s favorite verse:
