Pray the Bible

It’s PRAY THE BIBLE WEEK here on GUWG, where all week we’ll be praying through some of the most inspiring sections of Scripture together.

So unplug, unwind, un-whatever-it-is-you’re-doing and prepare to spend some quality time with the Lord.

We’ll start today with a pair of prayers from someone the Bible refers to as a “man after God’s own heart” — David . . .

MORNING PRAYER
(from Psalm 5)

Give ear to my words, O Lord,
consider my sighing.
Listen to my cry for help,
my king and my God,
for to you I pray.

In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait in expectation.

Lord, this morning I pray for . . .
[add your requests here]

EVENING PRAYER
(from Psalm 4)

Answer me when I call to you,
O my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress,
be merciful to me and hear my prayer.

How long, O men, will you turn my glory into shame?
How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?
Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;
the Lord will hear when I call to him.

In your anger do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord.

Many are asking: “Who can show us any good?”
Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.
You have filled my heart with greater joy
than when their grain and new wine abound.
I will lie down and sleep in peace,
for you alone, O Lord,
make me dwell in safety.
