Continuing last week’s discussion about doing battle with Satan, here are some additional words of wisdom from the Apostle Paul:

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers,
against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world
and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
(Ephesians 6:12)

Sounds pretty freaky. So, what should we do? Here’s Paul’s advice:

Therefore put on the full armor of God,
so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground.
(Ephesians 6:13)

What exactly is the “armor of God”? Here’s how Paul describes it:

  • Belt of Truth
  • Breastplate of Righteousness
  • Shoes of Peace
  • Shield of Faith
  • Helmet of Salvation
  • Sword of the Spirit

Each piece is indispensable . . .

Without the Belt of Truth, everything else falls down (Ephesians 6:14).

Without the Breastplate of Righteousness, our hearts are vulnerable (Ephesians 6:14).

Without feet “fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace,” we’re unprepared and we’ll stumble and fall (Ephesians 6:15).

Without the Shield of Faith, we’ve got nothing to “extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16).

Without the Helmet of Salvation, we’ve got no hope of survival – we need a Savior (Ephesians 6:17).

The Sword of the Spirit is the “word of God” (Ephesians 6:17). Without it, we’ve got no offense.

Paul’s battle plan?

And pray in the Spirit
on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind, be alert
and always keep on praying for all the saints.
(Ephesians 6:18)
