Bee Gees or Bible?
Saturday, June 12th, 2010These commandments that I give you today
are to be upon your hearts.
Impress them on your children.
Talk about them when you sit at home
and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up.
Tie them as symbols on your hands
and bind them on your foreheads.
Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
(Deuteronomy 6:6-9)
The other day it struck me: I have way more dumb 70s song lyrics stuck in my head than Bible verses. The Bee Gees. ABBA. Olivia Newton-John. The Carpenters. REO Speedwagon. They’re all in there.
Don’t let God’s word get crowded out of your head. Read your Bible every chance you get. Let it be the first thing you do each morning and the last thing you do before you fall asleep. Get it on CD and listen to it as you drive around. Talk about it over dinner with the family. Write your favorite verses on index cards and carry ‘em around in your pocket. Put ‘em on post-its and paste ‘em all over the house. Write ‘em on the back of your hand. Tattoo ‘em on your forehead. Put ‘em in neon lights on the roof of your house. Memorize ‘em. Meditate on ‘em. Marinate in ‘em.
PUT GOD’S WORD IN YOUR HEART
